Hei mahi
- Read this story to the class. Ask them to list all of the family’s solutions.
- Photocopy all of the suggestions form the text. Cut up each one into phrases. Place different sentences at different stations within the class so that each station has one sentence. Divide the class into pairs and tell them that their task is to join phrases to complete the sentences. After one minute, direct each pair to move clockwise around the class to a different station to complete the sentence at that station. Continue to rotate the groups at one minute intervals until they have each completed all sentences.
- In groups of three, have the students illustrate a poster showing suggestions to encourage others to be part of the solution to global warming.
- Arrange for each group of three to show their poster to another class explaining what they have learned.
- Ask the students to conduct a survey of students in the school to find more solutions to the problem of global warming.
- In groups of three, ask the students to compose a short haka or waiata about global warming. Arrange for each group to perform their composition to another group.
