He Kohikohinga 34
Whakamārama
This is the online version of Mā te pouako, Teachers' notes for He Kohikohinga 34, which was originally published by Learning Media for the Ministry of Education in 2002.
The series He Kohikohinga is a miscellany of original te reo Māori compositions for students at middle to senior primary and kura kaupapa Māori levels.
The purpose of this series of teachers' notes is to provide activities and lessons to get the most out of the relevant stories.
The main area of learning is te reo Māori. The achievement objectives and learning outcomes target level 3 of the Māori language curriculum document, Te Reo Māori i roto i te Marautanga o Aotearoa, and the New Zealand Curriculum Framework, Te Anga Marautanga o Aotearoa.
There is however an opportunity to modify the lessons to suit the appropriate level of the class.
Other suggested topics from different curriculum areas may be taught when the focus story is being used in this context.
The activities are simple and easy to prepare. They promote the children working independently and in co-operative situations and also support specific essential skills. The teacher may like to use them as a guide to making more challenging activities.
