Hei mahi

  1. Read this recipe to the class. Pairs of students have a set of ingredients. They follow the instructions to prepare their kūmara. (For safety reasons, the teacher should slice the kūmara before distributing the pieces to students. Similarly, an adult should put dishes into and remove them from the oven).
  2. Photocopy the method for preparing this recipe. Cut it up so that each sentence that gives an instruction is on a separate piece of paper. The students’ task is to sequence the method correctly. When complete, they can refer to the text to check their accuracy.
  3. In pairs, students create a pao about the recipe. Each pair performs their pao to another pair.
  4. In groups of three, students follow the recipe to create their own kūmara dishes.
