  • Kia mataara! identifies possible challenges for students.
  • He kete kupu identifies words that students may find challenging and/or that will enhance students' further understanding of concepts.
  • Hei wānanga i te reo provides a focus on some of the language structures used in the text.

This section provides:

  • ideas for motivating students
  • suggestions for engaging students with the text
  • a purpose for the reading.

In this section ideas are suggested which will:

  • support students during the reading
  • focus attention on detail.

Hei wānanga

Ideas for getting students to respond to the text are presented in this section.

Hei mahi kē atu

Hei mahi kē atu provides a list of ideas for developing inferential and other reading skills.

He whakapuaki māramatanga

These questions may be used as a form of assessment immediately after the reading. These questions are carefully selected to gauge the level of comprehension of the student. Students are asked to recall, analyse, apply, and infer information from the text. (Note the poems do not have there own set of comprehension questions.)
